Meet Lilly Giroux of đźŤđźŤ‹đź‘‘SOUR BEADS 👑🍋đźŤ
Based out of Toronto, 26 years old, Lilly is making the accessories of your candy coloured dreams !
Abbey: Please tell me about your art practice!🎨
Lilly: Lilly (that’s me) as an artist is a mover, maker, shaker! I strive to be myself in each of the arts I do and have joy at the forefront of my practices. I love being dramatic, theatrical, colourful, and loud! I have a tender juicy inner world mixed with a bold “hey I’m here” exterior. My art practices vary but in order of importance to me I am dancer, choreographer, educator, beader (lol that’s the best word to describe it) and makeup artist.
Abbey: I love that, how did you come up with the name Sour Beads? I need the name lore!đź«–
Lilly: I started a makeup page called Sour Brows when I was in high-school, I wanted a space to share an interest of mine where the stakes felt lower than my personal instagram page. Back in that time people were using the term “salty”, I thought sour felt like it described me more so I knew I wanted that to be a part of the name and brows are my favourite part of my face - hence Sour Brows.  Â
Last Christmas I made bag charms (CUTIES AND HOTTIES) and zipper pulls (TEENIES) for gifts for my friends. Â One of my friends Paige (who was gifted a HOTTIE) urged me to make an Instagram to try and sell them! She had the brilliant idea to call it Sour Beads - so the brand could still be a part of the sour family. (Paige is a photographer and designer, and helped me map out the vision)
Â
Abbey: What inspired you to start creating with beads?đź’
Lilly: My mom and aunt had a company called Artistic Frenzy many years ago, they made zipper pulls, earrings, necklaces. I grew up around this happening - watching them sell art that they really enjoyed making.  Eventually they said goodnight to the company and stopped selling art.  But my mom still had SO many beads in our basement.  I stumbled across them last fall and she gifted them all to me. Having that creative influence inspired me to try something of my own while also carrying on the legacy. I get my sister to help me make things!  It’s a fun activity to do with Renee and its cute because it feels like a mirror image of my Mom and her sister.
Â
Abbey: What are some of your goals with Sour Beads?🌀
Lilly: Markets! I really want to be in an art market and meet new people! I think I would be able to reach my target audience that way :) I want to look at customers and explain how versatile and fun my products are. I’m still figuring out how to be an “online business” and my goal is to reach a wider audience on Insta. My last goal is to get more attention on my TEENIES (the zipper pull) - they can go on any zipper people may have and they are just the cutest gifts to give!Â
Abbey: Is there anything else you want to share? đź’Ś
Lilly: Sour beads is a great way for people to express their inner colourfulness on the outside!Â
It’s a small expression that can come with you everywhere you go. Sour beads will spice up your life, your bag, and your energy!
